“Frozen moments in time”. This well used phrase best describes the current phase of Mr. Turner’s work.
Eclectic in style, there are influences in Mr. Turner’s work from Impressionism,Poster Art, Romanticism, the Dutch Masters, the Renaissance and Modern Cartooning.
Mr. Turner creates art that he would buy, that he would like to have hanging on his walls. He creates fine art for Art’s sake, nothing more, in his own words, “I just want to make neat pictures”.
Brought up in the fifties and sixties, Mr. Turner has always been a devotee of classic movies, and as such, of late, has devoted most of his time to capturing some of the most memorable moments from his favorite movies and television shows on canvas. Some have been done in color and some in black and white, they run the gamut from “Film Noir” to “Star Trek”, each painting stands alone. There is no message or deeper meaning beyond what is being portrayed, no pretension, no guile. Perhaps that is the true genius of his work, the same genius displayed by a child trying to copy a frame out of the Sunday “funny papers”, of Alley Oop or Popeye, and somehow coming up with something better. There is an almost startling directness in his work, the essence of the moment and the essence of the subject is captured in the simplest and most straight-forward terms.
Robert Turner produces truly original and entertaining art. We know of no one else in the art world that does what he does as well as he does...
